What are tariffs
How does this affect me?
For at least 40 years, the USA has had a duty of 4.9% on Croquet balls. Almost all croquet balls are made in China, including Sunshiny's that we have provided to the croquet world for 25 years.
In 2018, an extra 7% was added to all Chinese-made goods (balls included), entering the USA, bringing the total government charges to 11.9%.
In February & March 2025, an additional tariff of 20% was added.
That was followed with 100% in early April. Even higher tariff rates have been suggested, but at the time of writing this blog, the tariff rate sits at 145%. As a real world example, a set of Sunshiny CQ16 balls sells for $390 USD. The tariff charge is $565.50 (390 X 145%) for a total price of $955.50. That’s an increase in cost to the end user of 2.45%. To put this in perspective, if you bought a TV for $300, adding the same tariff to it, you would pay $735.

How can we help?
As a trade war between the USA & China escalates, the tariff rates continue to change. It is impossible to continually change our prices to keep up. Also, this tariff only affects the Chinese products that are purchased by our American customers. Our customers are in countries around the world. Most of these do not impose tariffs, so it isn't appropriate to increase prices for everyone.
Tariffs will be charged by US customs on items that are not made in Canada or the USA. Most people aren’t familiar with navigating the paperwork involved in importing products from Canada. Having over 3 decades of experience with shipping orders to the USA, we have always taken care of customs clearance for our customers.
When you buy a product that is not made in Canada or the USA, duty and/or tariffs will apply. The prices you see do not include those US government charges. We can pay them on your behalf, but they can impact the final price you will pay. When your order includes one or more of the applicable items, we will contact you by phone or e-mail to confirm the final price and arrange payment of the additional charges.
